Tango Is The Most Complex Dance In The World

Tango is often said to be the dance that "takes two." And while it’s true that connection between partners is essential, the secret to mastering this beautiful and intricate art form is not just dancing with others—it’s spending countless hours practicing on your own.

But how do you start? How do you develop the skills and technique to truly make Tango your own?

You’ve probably already invested in tango festivals, workshops, and private lessons—but there are limits to how often you can travel, and how much you can spend on in-person classes.

Tango, with all its complexity and beauty, hasn’t always been easily accessible to everyone—until now.

"To dance tango with freedom and joy, one needs to build and maintain muscle skills, strength, and coordination. This requires time and repetition, for the body cannot do this in an hour or a day.

These tango drills provide the tools to do this. Moreover, since they are embedded in music, they embody the pleasures of tango while gradually improving one’s tango skills. The drills are suitable for all skill levels: beginners and intermediates will acquire better balance while the seasoned dancer will discover nuances in timing and quality of movement."

Joanne Fujii

"I have been doing this curriculum of drills weekly for over 5 years and it has made ALL the difference in my tango.

Not only for my technique, balance and muscle memory, but for my understanding and appreciation of the music.  And I especially love dancing with other dancers who do regular drills.  I can absolutely feel it in my partner - It's like night and day.  And...there is no better way to have a whole body workout!    Thank you, Jaimes, for this comprehensive set of tango drills."

Richard Spera

"Tango drills are the surefire way to boost your balance and muscle memory so that when the time comes to dance-you feel increased confidence and presence with your partner.

Every time I practice the drills there is a noticeable difference in both the quality of movement and the enjoyment I ultimately get from the dance itself."

Nicole Perlman

"In the last four years, I have gained such a profound sense of freedom and confidence in my dance and my interpretation of movement possible in the music through regular drills practice.

The structured and complete nature of these routines not only hones my technique but also encourages my artistic expression and creative exploration, making these drills genius in the world of tango.  My dance and even my life has been elevated through consistent drills practice."

Joshlyn Marino

"I do want to thank Jaimes for creating the drill series!

Giving me a way to strengthen my balance and clarify my pivots on a daily basis is both clarifying and empowering!  Simply being about to focus on discovering my axis…without needing a partner!  It is wonderfully freeing!"

I'M JAIMES.

I’ve been dancing Tango since the mid-nineties, and it’s been a lifelong love affair ever since. From my teenage years to now, dancing Tango has given me countless joys—especially the music, the movement, and the incredible people who share the passion. There’s something deeply special about the intensity and dedication of the Tango community. We get crazy intense about our practice, and that’s what makes us such extraordinary dancers.

Over the last three decades, I’ve had the privilege of studying with some of the best Tango dancers and teachers in the world. As I’ve grown both as a dancer and as a person (I’m now in my 40s!), my relationship to Tango has evolved. While I still love the intensity of our dance, I’ve come to appreciate the beauty in simplicity and elegance. Now, the focus for me is on taking care of my body while still expressing the passion and connection that Tango brings.

That’s why I’ve put together this course for you. These solo drills and exercises are some of my favorites, gathered from years of experience and carefully selected for their effectiveness, practicality, and infallibility. They’re designed to help you improve your technique, build your confidence, and make your practice more mindful and enjoyable.

Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just beginning your Tango journey, these exercises will support you in making consistent progress, while ensuring you remain connected to the essence of the dance.

I’m so excited to share these with you, and I hope you’ll find as much joy in them as I have over the years.

  • Dance Videos

Each lesson (approx. 3 min. each) is led through video demonstrations of dance practices. You'll watch the movements being performed clearly so you can follow along and mimic the steps visually. There is no verbal instruction during the demonstrations.

  • Verbal Count Track

Each video includes a verbal count track to eight to guide your rhythm. This will help you stay in sync with the music and follow the flow of the choreography, but there are no verbal explanations of the moves in real-time. You’ll rely on the visual demonstration and rhythm to guide you through the movements.

  • Written Technique Tips

To supplement the visual learning,  written technique tips are included for each movement. These tips give you a deeper understanding of how to execute the moves correctly, covering elements like posture, alignment, and key details for proper technique.

  • Song Pairings

To enhance your practice, curated playlists of tango songs accompany each course, matching the rhythms and flow of the drills. These playlists are designed to help you dance in sync with music that suits the exercises, whether you're focusing on timing, embellishments, or turns.
